Cherishing Life's Opportunities

We walked around 37km and arrived at Ponferrada. Today's goal was either Buger King or Domino's Pizza. Having a goal gives me strength, but it also makes me feel like I'm living only in the future, constantly chasing something elusive.

This makes me even more tired. It reminds me of something I read in a book: Happiness is not a destination, and primates struggle to live in the present moment. I thought I would be different, but it turns out I'm also just a primate. So, how should I handle this problem? Unfortunately, the book didn't have any answers. Perhaps the deeper meaning is to think for yourself and find your own interpretation of a philosophy book.

Today's topic was the power of thought.

I've pondered everything, from my existence to how to live in the moment, inspired by the fresh morning air. Yet, once again, I find no answers that resonate with my heart. However, I now believe that the answer may be right beside me, much like Jesus Christ who is always near in ways I cannot perceive.

Upon arriving, we immediately spotted a McDonald's. Seeing my genuine happiness while enjoying the food, I realized that delighting in delicious meals is indeed a form of happiness.

Since I was unable to contact my family, they were very worried about me. Realizing that someone cares for me reminds me that I am valued and fortunate. I feel blessed.

We met a new Korean who seemed eager to  hang out with us, yet appeared lonely. It was a pity to see my own reluctance to make new friends. When will I mature? I still have a long way to go, but I'm encouraged by the many things I still have to learn.

- Ponferrada -

"You aren't late yet!" I'm unsure if it was merely a courtesy or genuine encouragement, but it gave me strength. I'm not late yet... That was a truly heartfelt word. I think I've found a new direction. She shared her story of starting a job she loved, but having to spend 90% of her time on tasks she disliked to pursue her 10% interest. Now, she aims to shift that job satisfaction ratio from 10% to at least 50% by embarking on this new path, much like the journey of Santiago De Compostela.

Many people say, "Do what you want to do!" but they seldom share the reality of it. I need to continuously think about this issue. If I could engage in work that interests me even 10% of the time, it would be better than doing something that holds no appeal at all.

In Korea, our lack of natural resources means we must work hard to survive. It's essential, then, not to settle for less but to always be on the lookout for better opportunities, whether for greater happiness, more fulfilling work, or higher earnings.

Our lives are too short to waste in unsatisfying jobs.

Let's experience as much as possible.

The sun was scorching today. It felt like walking on a heated frying pan. During this sweltering walk, I reflected on my past.

Looking back, I realize I prefer to be different. My choices have always stood out, whether it was watches, shoes, headphones, or even interviews. My unconscious choices have revealed a desire to stand out, highlighting my unique character.

Ponferrada

For your information,

Ponferrada is a city in the province of León, in the northwestern part of Spain, within the autonomous community of Castile and León. It is best known for its strategic location along the Camino de Santiago, a historic pilgrimage route, and for its well-preserved medieval architecture. Here are some detailed aspects of Ponferrada:

Geography

Ponferrada is situated in the El Bierzo region and is surrounded by mountains, making it a picturesque location. The Sil River runs through the city, adding to its scenic beauty.

History

The city has a rich history, originating from pre-Roman times. The name 'Ponferrada' derives from the Latin pons ferrata, meaning "iron bridge," which refers to the iron-reinforced bridge built over the Sil River by the Romans. Over the centuries, Ponferrada has seen various rulers, including the Romans, Visigoths, and Moors.

In the Middle Ages, the Templar Knights constructed the Castle of Ponferrada (Castillo de los Templarios), which remains a significant historical and touristic attraction. The castle was intended to protect the pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago.

Economy

The economy of Ponferrada traditionally relied on agriculture, coal mining, and wine production. However, in recent decades, the service sector and tourism have grown, largely due to its historical sites and the Camino de Santiago. The region is also known for its wine, especially those produced in the nearby denominations of origin like Bierzo, which is highly regarded for its Mencía grape.

Cultural Significance

Ponferrada plays a vital role in the Camino de Santiago, hosting thousands of pilgrims each year who travel through the city. This has contributed to its vibrant cultural scene, with numerous festivals and events, particularly those that celebrate its medieval heritage.

Attractions

  • Castle of the Templars: A massive fortress with a library holding a replica of the original Codex Calixtinus, a medieval guide to the Camino de Santiago.
  • Basilica de la Encina: A beautiful church that houses a revered image of the Virgin of La Encina.
  • Museum of El Bierzo: Showcases local history and culture.
  • Radio Museum: Reflects the evolution of radio and its impact on the region.
