The Curse of Asphalt and Hasty Success

I walked on the asphalt today. It was smooth, and we reached our destination by 10:20 am, the quickest time yet.

As I travled, I felt a connection, like something from the webtoon "Sound of Magic" I read came to mind.

In the story, a boy was portrayed as having everything he desired on the asphalt. He could achieve his aspirations swiftly, yet it led to a sense of futility, described as the curse of asphalt. Reflecting on this, I've observed many who attained success swiftly due to wealth or luck, only to be consumed by emptiness and ennui thereafter.

Contrastingly, those who endured hardships to achieve their goals tended to ascend to higher positions steadily. This underscores the caution against hasty and facile success. I find solace in the fact that I've not fallen prey to the curse of asphalt, reminding myself not to compare everything with others'.

Today's insights serve as another step toward maturity and growth.

I realize that my impulsive nature has often led to wasteful expenditure of money and energy. For instance, during my mandatory military service, I impulsively started learning Chinese but abandoned it after just a month.

Similarly, I've been reckless with my purchases, accumulating items that end up unused. Today's $130.00 expenditure, made without much thought, serves as yet another reminder. Tomorrow, I will brainstorm ideas on how to strike a balance between being determination and making thoughtful choices.
